Velvet TV Beds

TV beds upholstered in velvet. Warmer and softer under the hand than a flat weave, and the finish that hides the mechanism best: the pile breaks up the light across the footboard, so the line where the screen emerges is harder to see.

How velvet behaves in a bedroom

  • It changes colour with the light. Velvet looks darker brushed one way and lighter the other, which is why a grey velvet bed reads differently morning and evening. It is a feature, not a fault.
  • It shows marks — and loses them. Pressure marks from sitting against the headboard brush out with a soft cloth in the direction of the pile.
  • Plush versus crushed. Plush velvet has an even pile and a quiet finish; crushed velvet is deliberately irregular and catches more light.

Colours

Grey velvet is the most ordered, because it sits against almost any wall colour — see also grey TV beds in every fabric. Cream and champagne suit a lighter room; deeper colours are in the bouclé and velvet collection.

Care

Vacuum on a low setting and brush the pile in one direction. Blot spills rather than rubbing, and never use upholstery shampoo on velvet — it flattens the pile permanently. A damp cloth and patience beats any cleaning product.

Questions

What size TV fits?

Up to 43 inches on most frames, maximum 9cm deep, with 100mm or 200mm VESA holes. See 43-inch TV beds.

Is velvet a bad idea with pets?

Claws pull threads in any pile fabric. If a cat or dog shares the bed, leather or a tight weave takes the wear better.

Do these beds have storage?

Many do — see ottoman TV beds, where the base lifts on gas struts.
