Surround Sound TV Beds

Beds with the speakers built in as well as the screen. The amplifier and speakers are wired inside the frame and the sound comes from the footboard and headboard, so there's no soundbar on a shelf, no satellite speakers on stands and no cables across the floor.

2.1, 4.1 and 5.1 — what the numbers mean

• 2.1 — two speakers plus a subwoofer. A clear step up from television speakers, and the simplest system. Good for dialogue and everyday viewing.
• 4.1 — four speakers plus a subwoofer, so sound comes from both ends of the bed rather than only the foot.
• 5.1 — five speakers plus a subwoofer: the full cinema layout, with a dedicated centre channel for speech and rear channels for effects. This is the one to choose if you watch films rather than catch-up television.

The ".1" in each is the subwoofer — the bass unit. In a bed it sits inside the base, which is also why the bass is felt as much as heard.

How you connect it

Bluetooth for a phone or tablet, and a wired input for your television, so the bed's speakers play the TV's sound rather than the TV's own. One 13A plug powers the lift and the sound system together. No separate amplifier, and no electrician.

Is it loud enough — and will the neighbours hear?

These are bedroom systems, not cinema rigs. At normal volume the dialogue is clearer than a television's own speakers and films have real low end; at high volume a subwoofer carries through a shared wall, as any subwoofer does. In a flat or a terrace, 2.1 is the sensible choice.

Does the TV come with it?

No. The bed arrives with the lift, bracket, remote and speakers fitted, and you supply the television — up to 43 inches, maximum 9cm deep. See TV beds for 43-inch TVs.

Can I use the speakers without the TV up?

Yes. Pair a phone over Bluetooth and the system plays music with the screen still inside the footboard.

What if a speaker fails?

The sound system is covered by the same 5-year guarantee as the frame and the lift. Most faults are a part swap: we diagnose it from a short video and post you the replacement.
