Ottoman Storage Beds

An ottoman storage bed lifts at the foot on gas struts, and the whole base underneath becomes storage — the full width and length of the bed, with no drawers to clear and nothing to pull out into the room. It's the most storage you can fit in a bedroom without adding furniture, which is why it's the bed people choose for smaller rooms, flats and guest rooms that double as box rooms.

Every bed here is upholstered, made to order, and covered by our 5-year guarantee on the frame and lift mechanism (2 years on upholstery). Delivery is free across mainland UK, and our two-person team assembles the bed in your room and takes the packaging away. Most beds arrive within 5–10 working days of your order.

How the lift works

Two gas struts, one each side, take the weight of the mattress platform. You lift from the foot end, the platform rises and holds itself open, and you close it with a light push. A good lift should feel controlled on the way down rather than dropping the last few inches. The struts are sized for the platform plus a normal mattress, so you don't need to take anything off the bed to open it.

End opening or side opening?

Most of our ottoman beds are end opening: the platform hinges at the headboard and lifts from the foot. That's what you want in most rooms, as long as you have space to stand at the foot of the bed.

If the foot of the bed sits close to a wall or a wardrobe, choose a side-opening model such as the Antoine, which lifts from the long side instead. The Wilton and Archer TV beds open from the side too.

Choosing a size

  • Small double (4ft, 120cm): for a single sleeper who wants room, or a small guest room. See double ottoman beds.
  • Double (4ft6, 135cm): the most popular size, and the one that fits most UK bedrooms. See double ottoman beds.
  • King (5ft, 150cm): more room for two, and noticeably more storage underneath. See king size ottoman beds.
  • Super king (6ft, 180cm): the largest frame and the biggest storage base. See super king ottoman beds.

Measure the room before you order, and allow space at the foot (or the side, on a side-opening bed) for the platform to lift and for you to stand while you reach in.

Fabrics and headboards

The range runs from plain linen-look weaves and chenille to plush velvet and bouclé, in quiet neutrals as well as stronger colours. Headboard styles include winged, curved, deep-buttoned and box-pleat designs. Each product page shows the fabrics that bed is made in.

Ottoman bed or ottoman TV bed?

If you want a screen at the foot of the bed as well, see ottoman TV beds. The TV lift mechanism sits at the foot of the base, so those beds hold less than the ottoman beds on this page. If storage is the priority, choose from here. For more storage at the foot of the bed, add an ottoman storage box.

Questions

Can I lift the bed with the mattress on?

Yes. The gas struts are chosen to carry the platform and a normal mattress, so the bed lifts and stays open with the mattress in place.

What mattress should I use?

A standard UK mattress in the same size as the bed; the mattress isn't included, so you can keep the one you have. Very heavy or unusually deep mattresses make the lid heavier to lift, so if yours is much deeper than average, ask us before you order.

How much will it hold?

The storage runs under the whole mattress platform, so a double base takes spare duvets, pillows and a season's clothes with room to spare. The bigger the bed, the bigger the base.

Do I have to put it together?

No. Two people bring the bed into the room you choose, assemble it, show you the lift and take all the packaging away, at no extra charge. See delivery and assembly.

What does the guarantee cover?

5 years on the frame and the lift mechanism, and 2 years on the upholstery. See our guarantee for the details.
