TV Bed FAQs

Written by the people who answer the phone. If your question is not here, ask us and we will add it. For who we are and how we build, see About Kinobed.

The mechanism

How does a TV bed actually work?

A motorised lift sits inside the footboard. Press the remote and a bracket carrying your television rises out of the footboard to eye level from the pillow, taking about eleven seconds. Press it again and the screen lowers back inside, leaving a plain upholstered footboard with no visible hinge or glass.

How loud is it?

Quiet. The 24V motor is geared rather than belt-driven and soft-closes at both ends of travel, so you get a low hum for the eleven seconds it travels and no clunk when it seats.

Does it need wiring in?

No. A single 13A plug at the foot of the bed powers both the lift and your television. The cable runs inside the frame and exits at the base, so nothing is visible from the front or sides. You do not need an electrician.

What happens in a power cut?

The screen stays wherever it is. When power returns the remote works normally. There is also a manual release under the footboard that lets you lower the screen by hand — the delivery team will show you where it is.

Is it safe around children and pets?

The lift stops on resistance: anything obstructing the travel path stops the motor within about 15mm rather than forcing through it.

What if the mechanism fails?

It is covered for five years, the same as the frame — see our 5-year guarantee. The control board, motor and remote are serviceable modules, so most faults are a part swap: we diagnose it from a short video, post you the replacement and talk you through fitting it. If that will not resolve it, we collect the bed and repair it at the workshop. Both are free under the guarantee.

Your television

Is the TV included?

Not unless the product page says so. Most beds ship with the lift, bracket and remote fitted, and the television is yours to supply. If it is in the room on delivery day, the team will mount it for you at no charge.

How do I know if my TV fits?

Three numbers decide it: screen size, weight and VESA pattern. Every product page lists the maximum for that bed. If you are unsure, send us the model number through contact and we will confirm before you order.

My TV is bigger than the maximum. Can you make an exception?

No. An oversized screen overhangs the footboard, loads the lift arms off-centre and will eventually fail — and it voids the mechanism guarantee. We would rather lose the sale than sell you something that breaks.

Where do the TV cables go?

Inside the footboard housing. There is a cable channel with enough slack for the full travel, and a rear access panel for HDMI and power. Streaming sticks fit inside the housing.

The beds

Is a mattress included?

No. All frames take a standard UK mattress and have a sprung slatted platform, so you can use the mattress you already own. We sell mattresses separately if you need one.

How much storage does an ottoman TV bed really have?

The mechanism housing takes roughly 40% of the foot end of the base. What is left is still the full width and about 60% of the length — enough for bedding and out-of-season clothes, but less than a standard ottoman bed. If storage matters more than the screen, an ottoman storage bed without a lift carries more.

Can the bed go against a wall?

Yes, but check the opening direction. Most ottoman bases open from the foot, which needs clearance at the end of the bed.

Can I order a fabric sample?

Yes. Tell us through contact which fabrics you are choosing between and we will post you swatches.

Delivery & assembly

How long does delivery take?

Five to ten working days. We do not hold finished stock — your bed is built after you order, in the size and fabric you chose. We agree a delivery date with you once it is ready.

Do you assemble it?

Yes, always, at no extra cost in mainland UK. Our own two-person team brings the bed into the room you choose, builds it, tests the lift with you and takes every piece of packaging away. Allow about forty minutes.

Will it fit up my stairs?

The frames break down for access and most pass through a 76cm doorway. If you have a tight turn, a loft conversion or a narrow Victorian staircase, measure and tell us at checkout.

Do you deliver outside mainland UK?

Scottish Highlands and islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are quoted individually before you pay. See Delivery & Assembly.

After you buy

Can I change my mind?

Fourteen days from delivery under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Our beds are built to order in standard sizes and fabrics, and that right applies to them in the normal way. We collect free of charge and refund within fourteen days of the bed reaching us.

Where is my order?

Use Track My Order — send us your order number and postcode and we will tell you exactly where your bed is.

Something arrived damaged. What now?

Tell the delivery team before they leave if you can, or contact us within 48 hours with photographs. We replace damaged parts rather than making you return the whole bed.

Paying

How can I pay?

Through PayPal, which handles every payment for us. Choose the PayPal button in your basket or at checkout, approve the payment on PayPal's own secure page, and you are returned here with your order confirmed. We never see or store your card details.

Do I need a PayPal account?

PayPal offers a guest option on its payment page in most cases, so you can usually pay without opening an account. If you reach PayPal and would rather not continue, tell us and we will arrange another way to pay for your order.

When am I charged?

When you approve the payment at checkout, before your bed goes into production. If you cancel within the 14-day window, the refund goes back to the same PayPal account or card.

Do you offer instalment finance?

We do not offer instalment finance ourselves. Any pay-later options you are shown belong to PayPal and are between you and them.
