King Size Ottoman Beds

King size ottoman beds take a standard UK king mattress, 5ft by 6ft6 (150 × 200cm). That's 15cm wider and 10cm longer than a double, which is the difference most couples notice first. Underneath is a bigger lift-up storage base too: enough for spare bedding and clothes for two.

Double or king?

If two people share the bed, a king is usually worth the extra space. Each sleeper gets 75cm of width instead of 67.5cm. The trade-off is floor space: allow for the wider frame and for walking room either side. If the room takes a king comfortably but not a super king, this is the size to choose.

The lift on a bigger bed

A king platform is larger and heavier than a double, so these beds use stronger gas struts. A good lift should feel controlled on the way down rather than dropping the last few inches, with the mattress still on. Leave room at the foot of the bed to lift the platform and stand while you reach in, or choose a side-opening model like the Antoine if the foot of the bed is close to a wall.

Is a UK king the same as a US king?
